POSITION: Full-Time Pastor, Second Presbyterian Church, Baltimore, MD
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Second Presbyterian Church is a 220-year-old congregation of about 350 members located in the historic Guilford neighborhood in Baltimore City, Maryland. The Church seeks a full-time, solo pastor to lead our congregation into the future and be Head of Staff to three other full-time staff and up to seven part-time staff. The pastor would lead worship, provide pastoral care, engage with active, inactive, and potential members, assist in discerning a vision for the Church’s future, and empower and train volunteers and lay leadership to accomplish the work of the Church. We
seek a “people person” with excellent communication skills and the ability to engage not only with our congregation and potential members but also to connect with the larger Baltimore community. Our next pastor will have the faith, passion, temperament, and management skills to help us discern, understand, and put into action God’s plan for us.
Second Presbyterian Church’s current vision for ministry and outreach includes weekly and special worship with excellent music, continued use and sharing of our large facility, spiritual education and support for all ages, and a myriad of volunteer and social activities. Our highly visible location at the confluence of inbound and outbound routes in a residential neighborhood of Baltimore City positions us to reach out to the greater community. We especially seek to re-engage those who identify as Christian but who have disengaged from church due to competing priorities and busy careers. We have long-standing local and international mission programs that inspire our members and draw newcomers.
Second Presbyterian Church seeks to know deeply and share widely the Word through joyful worship grounded in the Gospel and reformed theology: including excellent music, inspired preaching, and prayer. We support lifelong spiritual growth for all through the study of Biblical and current topics with intellectual and theological rigor. We aspire to be the spiritual home for our members – and welcome all others – who seek a closer walk with our Savior, Jesus Christ.
God has blessed us with many gifts and we are called to share them with our community.
